I remember when I was growing up that we were asked to make “New Year’s Resolutions”, as if we have been so bad the previous year and we had to resolve to be better.
The usual resolutions would come around such as:
- eat healthier and exercise more
- be kinder to my brothers, my cousins and my friends
- always respect my parents
- be more focused with my studies
I don’t recall ever having been truly successful with any of these resolutions, meaning if I can tie any one event to these. They’re too broad for my liking and they didn’t really touch the heart of what I want in life.
Plus, it gave the mindset that a new year means you forget all about the previous years, dust it off and delude you to thinking you can have a better year just because its new.
Ummm… it doesn’t work out like that.
If you read my previous post about intentions, you manifest what you want in life by consciously choosing what you want to experience.
So I’d like to to present to you my 4 steps to rise in 2021 which brings forward who you are now and use your best qualities to move you forward in the year head, no matter what’s happening in the world.
Step 1: Release the previous year
Reflect on the previous year you had… all the ups and downs, challenges, disappointments, surprises, failures, successes, wins and everything in between.
This will give you a good rundown of how you lived this last year and, in its own way, give your psyche a sense of closure. When you do this, the events of the past won’t hang around you like a dark cloud.
Step 2: Mine your wisdom
Based on how you lived your last year, list down your lessons, your aha moments, what you learned about yourself, how you surprised yourself, what new skills you developed.
This part is meant to be a celebration of you. No matter how shitty your previous year may have been, there are still experiences, feelings, things, people, your surroundings that you can find to be grateful for.

Step 3: Dreaming, Visioning
Now, its time to dream! And give yourself permission to dream big! Most coaches start you off in this step without going through Steps 1 and 2 first. Without the previous steps, Step 3 can become very difficult because you might hear your mind giving you the “buts”.
But if you are centred in who you are and what you’re capable of, its easier to dream from here on how to spring yourself forward.
Don’t hold yourself back and vision how you want your year to be. Visioning doesn’t just mean visualising it. You can also journal it out, feeling in your body how you want to feel at the end of the year, and imagining what you want to hear when you’ve achieved your goals.
Step 4: Intentions, Alignment, Actions
This is where rubber meets the road. Now that you’re clear on your vision, its time to make it concrete.
For each area of your life, set an intention of how you want it to look like, sound like and feel like. The various areas of life are:
Then have an honest look at what that area of your life looks like right now. Then create actions that will bridge where you’re at to where you want to be.
That’s it! Make sure you write all these down. If you feel like it, create a vision board, put up a huge calendar in your home, and put post-it intentions in areas you frequent.
Use this to boost your confidence that you can be the creator of your life. Because you truly can!
